“NKC supports individuals and promotes economic independence. Staff and volunteers are true to NKC ministry!”
Step2 is designed for any neighbor who is ready to take the next step toward economic stability. You do not need to be in an active crisis to begin the program, nor do you need to start with Case Management first; you simply need to be ready to work toward the goals you set for yourself.
The mentoring model relies on four core components to help participants build the skills and mindsets necessary to achieve economic independence:
Coaching for Economic Mobility: A one-on-one, participant-directed partnership.
Economic Mobility Bridge: A visual framework and assessment tool for charting a path forward.
Goal Setting: Using the Bridge tool as a blueprint to strategize around barriers and prioritize goals.
Recognition: Actively acknowledging and celebrating progress, which can include certificates or earned incentives.
The program provides an 18-month structure, but you are empowered to move at your own pace. Depending on your unique situation and needs, you have the flexibility to finish the program early or take longer if required.
Emergency food is easy to fund, but a years-long relationship is invisible to most donors, which is exactly why it’s the hardest program to fund and the most impactful gift you can make.
