Because of you… our 2021 Impact

We could go on and on about the many wonderful things that happened in 2021 but being able to expand our footprint to provide more services was certainly a high point. Your generosity helped us complete a $3.4 million Building Connections Capital Campaign in March of 2021. The 12,400-square-foot addition allowed us to more than double the size of our client Food Pantry to provide more fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy for families in need. The Thrift Store also doubled in size to offer a greater selection of gently-used, high-quality clothing and housewares, while the Farm Stand expanded its footprint to stock a wider variety of locally-sourced foods available at two price points to ensure everyone has access to fresh, healthy foods.

The new expansion offers our community partners dedicated space to help more people:

We’re excited about the new Family Promise Day Center at North Kent Connect that provides a safe place for families to work, shower, do laundry, prepare lunch, look for employment, and work with a Family Promise case manager to find permanent housing. We’re thankful for local host churches that provide overnight accommodations during the housing search process.

Brand new to North Kent Connect is the Kent County Health Department WIC North County Clinic. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion, education, support, referrals to other health care providers, high risk nutrition counseling, immunizations, and supplemental foods to low-income pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children under the age of five.

Longtime partners have their own offices as well. Arbor Circle provides mental health and substance abuse services, and West Michigan Works! offers job preparedness assistance.

We’re always happy to give you a tour of the new expansion! Contact Scott Christie at (616) 866-3478 ext. 356, or at scott.christie@nkconnect.org.
