Shopping for groceries isn’t always enjoyable, especially when you’re faced with tough choices. We all know that children need fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables, but buying them leaves many families with little else to pay the bills, even with a full-time job. Family favorites, like sweet potatoes, carrots, and apples are an occasional treat, when they should be a regular part of everyone’s diet. So how do we make these options affordable?
Here at North Kent Connect, we provide a Farm Stand featuring locally sourced seasonal items from partner farmers. It’s separate from our free, client-only Market Pantry, and open to the community.
The tiered price structure of the Farm Stand means EVERYONE has access to affordable, local foods. Shoppers have the option to pay either a reduced cost (priced for NKC clients and community members in need) or retail price. The retail profits go back into purchasing food for the Farm Stand to keep it operational.
And while we know that North Kent Connect is not likely your destination for fresh foods, we’re glad we can offer something to help make purchasing those foods a little easier. So stop in for a great deal on an outfit, and grab a carton of locally sourced fresh eggs while you’re here!
The Farm Stand is located inside the North Kent Connect Thrift Store, and is available whenever the Thrift Store is open. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
